According to “What Kills It: What Kills Coronavirus,” you want to look for products that are rated by the EPA to kill “emerging pathogens” and ideally the can would say it kills MERS or SARS. There are a number of corona viruses and apparently if the label says “Kills coronavirus” that is not good enough.

From the site:

“Emerging virus” means it is new and without historical data. Therefore, you will not be able to find a “legitimate” product label that says “Kills Novel Coronavirus” or “Kills Wuhan Coronavirus” as it is much too early for that statement to be verified.

As such, this article will teach you protocol for emerging threats and what to look for in a disinfectant in order to increase your chances of buying a product strong enough to kill the viral particles of an emerging threat.

You should use the EPA’s “List N” to identify products that kill emerging pathogens. Unfortunately, it’s become virtually impossible to find products on List N that are not sold out.

Soap and water kills it, as does a dilute bleach solution.
