I’m all for it; but the citizens here will have to be ready to choke on some serious price increases. Our labor wages and benefits can get notoriously high; and those labor costs will have to be baked into our “made in USA” cake.
Yes, subsidies would help; but those cost money too.

In 1865 the United States was economically devastated after a four year civil war. In 1900 the United States had the world’s largest industrial infrastructure and was self sufficient in almost every manufacturing product category, as well as agriculture. During the 35 years from 1865 to 1900 the United States had the highest tariffs in its history. Its currency was also on the gold standard.
Perhaps there are lessons to be learned from history.
