I think Brazil is trying the alternative - which is to let it plow through and clean up at the end. Not really fair to the non-FluBros needed emergency services for other reasons, but it is an alternative approach and it may end quickly there...since all will be infected.

The average lethality rate is 3.5%
State of São Paulo has 1517 cases with 113 deaths. The mortality rate in the state is 7.4%.
However, remembering that the government is testing only the cases of hospitalized people.
It will be interesting to see what happens, especially if their hospitals are overwhelmed. The U.K. was going to take this approach too, but it got to be too much I think a s they backtracked.

I spoke with a friend in Brazil a short while back. He said that the people in the slums were partying like the lockdowns were extra vacation days.
Brazil does not have a durable HCS in any case, so collapse won’t really be much different from normal. It’s still going to be a catastrophe.
