This was one of the most played songs on 1970s-era rock radio. Right up there with “Freebird”, “Stairway” and “Layla”

If you're talking the quintessential songs of the 1970s, you need to add "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" to the list.

Not a bad add to the list and I’ll throw in “Night Moves” by Bob Seger. A little later into the 70s for that one - 1976, I believe - but FM radio played the hell out of that one too.
