Alan Merrill, the former Arrows bandmate who co-wrote and sang "I Love Rock 'N' Roll," died on Sunday at age 69 from the coronavirus, his daughter confirmed.
The Coronavirus took my father this morning. I was given 2 minutes to say my goodbyes before I was rushed out. He seemed peaceful and as I left there was still a glimmer of hope that he wouldnt be a ticker on the right hand side of the CNN/Fox news screen, his daughter, Laura Merrill, wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday.
I walked 50 blocks home still with hope in my heart. The city that I knew was empty. I felt I was the only person here and perhaps in many ways I was. By the time I got in the doors to my apartment I received the news that he was gone, she continued.

According to Billboard, Merrill was the lead singer on the original version of "I Love Rock 'N' Roll and co-wrote the track. The song became a hit after it was picked up by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts and released by group in 1981.

RIP.
Just saw where John Prine is in critical condition with Covid-19
Its tragic. Scared sick people are all alone. And dying all alone. Why cant family members be with them? Out of more risk to the medical professionals? Its just terrible. I hope parents are allowed to stay with minor children.
Where do we go from here ... just sayin
I remember that when Joan Jett recorded it. It was like some sort of anthem. I first thought it was Suzy Quatro.
There’s a thread on John Prine here:

My wife and I are huge fans, we’re really bummed about that news.
Seems like a nice guy...RIP

Near the end - when the virus has overrun the body - is the time a person’s most contagious.

Yes, just saw that too. Awful. Love him. I hope he will come through, but as hubby said he’s a really old looking 73.
This is sad from this woman, may her father Rest in Peace and may the Lord comfort her.
Thanks for posting that link. We love John P. too.
And Joe Diffie passed away from it yesterday (Saturday).
I saw Jett & The Blackhearts perform this in a club in Tallahassee Fl in late 1980, well before the single came out. She was on a double bill with Iggy Pop, my ears were nearly bleeding after that show.
