CBS News is mourning the loss of Maria Mercader, a network veteran who covered breaking news for nearly three decades and, most recently, helped shape strategy for the network's correspondents and reporters.

Maria was 54 and died from the Covid-19 coronavirus in a New York hospital. She had been on medical leave for an unrelated matter since the last week in February.

Maria fought cancer and related illnesses for more than 20 years, and was an inspiration each time she returned to work after a setback threatened to end her life. "

It is entirely your imagination.

The Communist Bioweapon has killed more men and women than all other genders combined.

Cancer lowered her immunity, making her most susceptible to COVID, and thats what killed her. These are the easiest people to imfect and killed, just a fact. Screw the symantics. A reporter dying from this is not going to rally sympathy, except from their own ilk.

“Flu is not a reportable disease.”

Your explanation of looking at pneumonia, etc. and making an estimate makes more sense than what I had read somewhere a couple of months ago. They said the flu deaths were estimated on the number of “excess” deaths compared to an average year in the USA.

But that would have to assume that all other causes of death are fairly constant, which seems like a stretch. I suppose one could go through all of the “known” causes such as car wrecks, airplane deaths, murders, suicides, etc. and then put down the averages for cancer and heart attacks to refine things.

Who cares what she died of? RIP Maria. I am very sorry to hear this. 54 is way too young.

And, quit using bodies to support your agenda!!!

There was a link on another thread that said there is bacteria that is common among the community that really amplifies the problems coronaviruses can inflict so no probably not. It might in part explain the NYC cluster.

“...She had been on medical leave for an unrelated matter since the last week in February....”
*****************************************
So she likely was on terminal leave, and likely in hospital, for her cancer. She likely DIED of her cancer WITH A CORONAVIRUS INFECTION which could well have been HOSPITAL ACQUIRED. All speculation on my part, of course.

There is actually a description of what the CDC does in their process on their web site.

Isn’t the publicizing of personal medical information a violation of HIPPA laws?

No. But I would trust the doctor... don’t trust CBS any further than I could throw them.

Good point. You’re right - CBS easily could have lied - the ARE liberal biased haters...

Brother, the home run that you just jacked out of Robinson Stadium, might of broke Mickey Mantle’s monster shot.

1. Mickey Mantle, 1960, 643 Feet
Historian Mark Gallagher estimated that the home run Mantle hit in September of 1960 at Tiger Stadium traveled a whopping 643 feet. The ball actually sailed right over the right field roof of the ballpark, which is mind-boggling to contemplate. This dinger off the bat of ‘The Mick’ went an estimated 140 feet further than the 15th longest home run on this list, which makes it that much more impressive.

Underlying diabetes is rarely blamed for cause of death. COPD, heart disease, etc, usually get the blame.

I suspect covid19 will be the cause of death rather than a complication.

She had underlying conditions. 20 years with cancer? To claim the covid virus takes her out?

“ But it was the COVID-19 that killed her, right?”

No, no, no. You misread the article. It’s Trump’s lack of action that killed her. There now, don’t we all feel better....

cancer is the primary, covid the secondary opportunistic infection due to a cancer weakened immune system.

I kinda thought life was the more human moment than death...but yes we will all face death.

Maybe they are equal moments...But I thought seeing life from my wife and I was a better human moment.........
