"If I have to break open the rice I stored up 13 years ago, I hope I did it in such a way boweavels and maggots dont come pouring out. The way to prevent that is to freeze it for a few days before you store it away. Freezing kills any baby insects and kills all the eggs too.
I just did an experiment and cooked some 11 year old baby lima beans. I could eat them if necessary....otherwise, no.
