Many of us just believe in stocking up for general reasons. Less store trips, taking advantage of sales, etc. I haven’t broken into the MRE’s yet.

Same here - only addl items we bought were a grain mill, dehydrator, wheat berries and a thermal scope.

I prefer the term “insurer”.

I buy car insurance even thought I haven’t had an accident in 45 years. I buy home insurance even though I’ve never had a house fire. I buy life insurance for the myself so the Mrs and kids are ok, but haven’t used it yet.

Storing some food, having a way to get water, an alternate means of heat, medical supplies and a way to defend your family is just another form of insurance. A little more direct than writing a check to some company, but the same idea.
