A lot of Americans are going to be out of work until the supply chain business gets fixed.

Virus or no virus.

We’re thinking of buying a ‘backup’ water heater and washing machine with our plague check. Still cogitating ideas on that one. Given the freezer sellout with no date on restock, we’re thinking about what appliances we ‘need’ that might be dodgy wrt availability for a while if this goes on much longer (china issues)

OOp, spoke too soon.

Lowes has updated the availability for chest freezers.

May 10 now.

Let’s see if that date slides any.

That's what I don't understand-that they don't understand that as long as people are still getting sick, hospitalized and dying exponentially, things are not going back to normal.

I guess, in their minds, they visualize everyone bustling around like a normal flu season? It just isn't going to be like that. Sure, some will but most thinking people are greatly going to adjust their lives. Lock down or no lock down.

It's would a constant state of panic as clusters are reported in offices, churches, etc.

My office has 1500 people in it as do most of the offices around me. One case, they will close the office, "deep clean" and move to work from home.

I guess, I just don't understand what they visualize. Going back to regular life? I don't see that for a very, very long time barring some sort of breakthrough.

Today I’m working on air conditioner spare parts. I have a pretty good supply of the small items (contactors, transformers, capacitors, and basic thermostats). Every spare part that I have is Made in China. Things may get interesting in this area in a year or so, as inventories run out.

I’m going to start thinking about the bigger items now (blower and condenser fan motors), but they cost much more. Obviously compressors themselves don’t make sense to back up, but I do have one portable AC unit and one very small window unit...so that’s covered sufficiently.

As to water heaters, I had bought two identical ones 10 years ago, only to find that my sizes were different (well, they looked the same to me), so that got me one spare. For the size I still needed, I then bought two of them, so I have a spare for each size at this point (I replaced both with the 4 that I bought).

No backup for me regarding washer/dryer - but our units are old, so no fancy control units to blow out in a lightning strike.

I also ordered some spare parts for my refrigerators, but others were expensive, so I just got another refer (fairly small one though). Our chest freezers are new, so we should be good there.
