I’m not sure how other states are doing it, and I hope they all are, but Calif has waived the usual one-week waiting period for unemployment ins. Sign up online, get a check on cycle. Ask questions later. That plus the rebate, payment, stimulus whatever we’re calling the insta-money, should get most folks thru. I think if we all hunker down, we can avert or highly minimize a second wave, and deal with sporadic outbreaks as they occur, while people get back to work.
There’s also something about small businesses having to go thru their local banks for special loans, that may be forgiven if the employer doesn’t lay off his people at all - he uses the loan to keep paying them and keep the rent paid (but I haven’t looked into that yet). If the boss doesn’t know about it, make sure he does.
Hmmm... Let me know if you hear about anything for sole proprietors doing 1099 work that has evaporated...
(Thanks for previous suggestions too. Am still looking into online tutoring and such.)
I could probably get a “written notification” from my last “customer” stating why they were “discontinuing my services” as I was told on the phone, and I have my statement (1099-misc) for 2019, of course.
