The Star Center on my High School Basketball Team was a member for a number of years on the hapless Washington Generals which was the patsy team the Globetrotters played most of the time. His name was Barry Weston.

I loved watching them play back when I was a kid. I got to meet another player Geese Ausbie at a stamp show in Little Rock. He was signing autographs and I got to talk to him for some time.
Geese is still with us.

I enjoyed watching:
“The Globetrotters”, “The Redheads”; and “The King and His Court”.
There is an interesting story out there somewhere
about when it finally dawned on Eddie (The King) Feigner
that they needed to add a fourth man to the team
after they had the bases loaded and
no one left to come to the plate to bat.
In 1967 Feigner struck out Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Brooks Robinson,
Roberto Clemente, Maury Wills, and Harmon Killebrew all in a row.

They almost never missed a shot, and I wondered as a kid why they were not playing in the NBA, lol.

Seems like Curly was the one to do the “hook” from half-court corner.
They inspired me to try a baseline to baseline shot.
After 15 tries, I got it!

The Trotters played everywhere in the 70’s. Big arena’s and small town HS gyms. They put on a great shown everytime no matter if the crowd was 200 or 10000. A national treasure. RIP Curly and Meadowlark Lemon!

RIP Curly. I have great respect for a bunch of guys who would come all the way to Michigan Tech to entertain the students. It was a fun show.
