Our local Nextdoor App has a fairly large group of women who are working very hard to get these masks made and into the proper hands.
Too bad PA Gov. Wolf considers them a non-essential business.
My sis is an X-USN nurse and BC survivor & a rabid Quilter.
She has been making them for about 2 weeks, sending them to her medical friends all over, for free.
BTN Mask Co “Better Than Nothing”
After this she will step up to the plate for something else
If I were a medical professional I would not accept these just from anybody. Too many mentally disturbed people out there. Good idea but poor implementation.

Another poster pointed out they can be worn over ‘official masks’ to help extend the life of the official ones because the unofficial ones DO stop almost all of the droplets- while some might get through- not many will- what does get through will be caught by the official masks underneath
another poster made a good comment about how some folks just gotta sit in their basement criticizing everyone who is at least trying to help in some small way- whether it’s just folks giving info, or folks making masks at home to donate- someone has to jump in and criticize-
Good thread- will give folks something to do while sitting home- bored-
on a side note- our local hospital, had reams of masks- and told folks- Yep- got plenty, help yourselves- that was three weeks ago- probably none there now though-
“Rosie the Riveter” is now “Margie the Mask Maker”
My understanding is that the health care profession may only use “N95” masks and respirators that are CDC certified. Although the intent is admirable, I doubt that the effort will be helpful.
This is how Joann gets to be an essential business.
