As an entrepreneur and importer/distributor of ultra high-end audio, I once did a 2-day demo show at my dealer in LA to help promote $60k vacuum tube amps from Japanese partner.
I had become friends with a highly acclaimed mastering engineer based in LA who graciously joined me at the dealer. He also brought a CDR he burned from the original master tapes - from outtakes from the Beatles "White Album" to Peggy Lee's iconic "Fever" that was "dry" before the dreaded reverb was added for the commercial release.
During the weekend, someone played Eva Cassidy's amazing cover of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from her hits album "Songbird".
Steve heard that version and quickly met the label president and agreed to remaster "Songbird" album for vinyl LP. The remastering included using amplifiers from the Japanese partner and concluded with my website included on the album credits.
I also received a "dry" version of "Somewhere" with only Eva and her acoustic guitar before the additional instruments were added in the studio.
Eva Cassidy's story of that live recording at "Blues Alley", her last chance at a recording career, and her death 7 months later is so tragic.
