The people in this country today who are so upset over their ‘losses’ and ‘sacrifices’ during this ‘crisis’ don’t realize what a wonderful nation we live in and the extent of abundance we truly have.
We complain because there aren’t 52 varieties of amply stocked hand sanitizers and toilet paper. We expect to be able to go to the store any buy food that is not in season and comes from the opposite side of our planet.... at a decent price.
People in many countries go to ‘stores’ that don’t have freezers or coolers. You buy what they have to sell and if it spoils, that’s on you.
My father had hand me down shoes. He had five brothers. These were people barely out of the depression and who then had to go overseas and defend their nation. Which they did without complaint.
Maybe sometimes we should count our blessings instead of worrying over spilt milk.

Yes to all you said.
Decades ago I had a friend from Iran. She came home from the store furious and disgusted saying, “I just want to buy shampoo!!! Why must that be difficult?!” She explained that in Iran, everyone used the same kind of shampoo but at the mall, they had aisle and aisles of shampoo - different colors, different scents - she had no idea which one is good or for what purpose. I saw the shampoo aisle through her eyes for a moment and had to agree. All the marketing and advertising to make disposable bottles “pretty” and something you wash down the drain smell “nice” for those one or two minutes it’s on your hair.
Same thing with a Russian visiting, looking at a Seven Seasons salad dressing display, declaring it “beautiful”. The glass salad dressing bottles were ornate with cut facets in the bottle, the labels elaborately colored - all of them lined up perfectly in a display featuring approximately 15 different flavors. In his country you have a plain bottle that you put household ingredients in and shake it. In America - it’s a magical mystery tour in the salad dressing aisle.
We do have too much of everything and there’s a cosmetic investment in things that are utilitarian to a ridiculous degree.
