Gasoline can deteriorate though and must be treated and used within a reasonable time frame.
Mr. mm is anal about that.
One FReeper mentioned once that whenever there is weather expected, he empties the gas cans into his vehicle and buys fresh to fill those back up.
That way the gas never gets too old and ruined.
At one time we had about 10 gas cans with gas and 5 with diesel fuel. I don’t know what we have anymore since that’s not my area of expertise. But I think I will politely ask tomorrow just to make sure he hasn’t forgotten his job. Especially with gas at $1.69 a gallon!
Hubby used to do the same thing. He would fill up the vehicles from the cans and then replenish the cans. Fairly labour-intensive, but I always felt better when we had a hint of earthquakes or anything like that in California to know we had the fuel to get to the mountains.
PRIG for gasoline will make gas last almost indefinitely as long as it’s not vented where you loose the light ends.
They advertise it can bring degraded (varnish smell) gas back to specs (barring it hasn’t lost all the light ends).
I can vouch for the latter. I had some bad gas and added the catalyst and the varnish smell disappeared. Ran the lawn mower just fine.
PRID for diesel
You are so correct. I use an Amsoil product that not only stabilizes it takes care of the water that comes from ethanol in the fuel. Works really great.
Another considerations, is a reliable vehicle without a computer chip or any type of electronic controls. I restored a 1977 Jeep CJ5 so that in the happen chance an EMP was used against the US, I would still have a vehicle that functioned. You hear of people planning on bugging out to their "secret" location with trailer in tow and truck full of firearms and provisions. Hard to do if your tow vehicle will not run.
