A cruise ship with 42 sick people on board is hoping to dock in Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on March 30.
The Holland America Line Zaandam ship, owned by Carnival Corporation, originally left Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 7 with 1,243 passengers and 586 crew on board.
The cruise was scheduled to end in Chile on March 21, but Chile did not allow anyone on board to disembark. The ship left Chile on March 21, and is trying to secure transit through the Panama Canal to be able to arrive in Fort Lauderdale on March 30, the company said in a statement.
There is no COVID-19 testing available on board.

Bad judgment to get on a cruise ship, but I feel sorry for them anyway, especially the crew, for whom the trip was not an optional lark. Hope they can get care somehow.
I would go on a cruise tomorrow if I knew I could spend two weeks on Bonaire :)
The ship left 77 days ago. Sounds like a fantastic trip..until it wasn’t.
Canal to Florida does not go past the ABC islands. They are two days out of the way.
It left on March 7th.
Send them back to where they started from
Anyone who got on that ship is beyond stupid and has nobody but themselves to blame for this.
The length of that trip would seem to indicate the the ship left well before the first signs of COVID-19 outside of China — or at least Asia.
On March 7th it stopped for 8 hours in Argentina. It’s original departure was early January in the states.
That shouldn’t be too had to figure.

Do you really think the ship was BORN and BUILT in Argentina. They sail every single day to somewhere new. You are trusting the MSM to be the know-all?
Wife and I have sailed 20 or more trips in just the last 5 years. We scoped this exact trip out last year even.
This could’ve been me. I was scheduled to leave Fort Lauderdale on the Koningsdam on March 15. The cruise was canceled on the 13th. The Koningsdam was going to sale all the way around South America and up to Vancouver BC on a cruise lasting for 48 days. No one would’ve let us land.

My prediction on this ship. When it rendezvous with the Rotterdam, the will move Zaandam passengers in inside cabins to the Rotterdam in outside cabins and balcony cabins.
They will put all passengers on both ships in fresh-air accessible cabins for the remainder of the trip to Florida.
