I have a relative coming in from another state to stay with me. I am at risk and have been isolated. How do I introduce him into the home, 2 week quarantine? In Garage? Cannot find a camper. Ideas??

This is just off of the top of my head due to your need I thought I'd suggest it. I have never stayed there but they would have restroom facilities with showers.
On average, KOA campsites for RV's range from $41- $80 US dollars; for camping cabins and other lodgings it ranges from $54- $250.00 US dollars and tents range from $24- $80 US dollars a night. Every KOA site is unique and different from even the KOA sites within the same state.

Then prepare, if not already, to understand how’d he feel if you die because of his visit. Unless he is a teen or child he’d not understand this, but you do. Does not seem to be any reason why you’d risk it now. You can reimburse the money lost by him from cancelling, so he can visit at a later date.

The problem is, he needs to be completely isolated until 15 days past last exposure to ensure that he’s not contagious and won’t give it to you.

That means that even in a motel, he can’t go to the store or anything but needs to stay in that room with enough supplies for those two weeks.

The advantage of the garage with the tent and space heater option is that you could guarantee he wouldn’t be exposed to anyone else.

But once he leaves, he can’t come back without being in quarantine again.

I hope you have enough supplies for the duration and the both of you.

Also, you should tell him that if he’s going to do the garage thing, he might as well stock up at whatever stores he can hit on his way up so that he’s got enough for for well more than two weeks.

Two weeks would give him enough to get through the quarantine period but not anything beyond that without going out for groceries again.

"Couple of years ago I bought an electric oil-filled space heater. No flame, no really dangerously hot surfaces, but heats up an enclosed area quite nicely. Looks a lot like an old-fashioned steam radiator."

I have one of those. They're very nice. Had another one that had no oil in it, though. One should make sure that there's oil in it before buying.

If the garage space is large or drafty, a more powerful heater might be better.

I’ve also lived in an arctic climate (micro-climate) at high elevations and used a travel trailer when doing so. Found that extra bed clothing is very important. Layers. Socks and liners for pac boots were very helpful for sleeping—only the liners. ...and stocking caps. Sweats and/or long underwear help, too.

Tell him to stay home as you are at risk.

A big plastic bin with a close fitting lid and an Ozone Generator can be used to sterilize stuff, like clothes to
be washed, stuff he brings from the store, etc.

If you can get one, a UV Sterilization Wand could be your friend. They also make UV sterilization Bags, boxes and cabinets.

Hand Sanitizer, soap, water.

The Garage, Tent, Air Mattress, electric blanket, heater
quarantine plan can work.

He'll also need some kind of mask around you...

And as to your health, we filter our water and clean all the things, but sometimes our air needs attention.

At risk folks might consider replacing the filters in your home heating and/or air conditioning systems. Get the good allergy rated filters. I had a neighbor who did not even know they had “Air Return Ducts” in their house, with filters that had not been changed in years.

If you want to get seriously serious, there’s these:
Medify MA-112 | The Only 950 CADR H13 HEPA Air Purifier | Covers up to 5,000 sq ft Every Hour | Dual air Intake with 2 Sets of Filters for Allergies, Smog, Odors, Smoke, Pets Dander, Dust (2-Pack)

I have a two car garage attached to the house, but it is cold and drafty.

Not for you it won't be.

Think of it this way - if he is a real friend, he would stay in that cold and drafty garage. And if a BFF, would pay YOU for the privilege of doing so.

Tell him he needs to buy a small space heater and to get some blankets and a TV at Walmart. Maybe some tape and plastic to cover windy windows...

I assume your garage has electricity... If both of you die from this disease it's not going to help anyone. After 19 days he can move into the house. You can cook for him if you want to but food should be left outside the garage door and be in a throw away container... This virus can live on plastic and stainless steel for days... He can buy a bed at a thrift store... and donate it back when the two weeks are up...

If he's a family member- and I assume he is - and he does gets sick - - you'll need to care for him. Make sure HE wears a N95 mask to keep YOU from being infected.

It's better the garage is a little cold than too hot like in Florida - you can buy a $30 space heater on Amazon but not a $30 air conditioner... Of course we'd put a person in a screened in outdoor porch...

Remember, you're no help to him if you're sick too... and it's only a short few weeks he'll have to live in the garage. Stay safe ...both of you.

Is this a son, father or brother? Any relative beyond that and it’s easier to say, ‘no’. If you give him the option of staying in the garage OR not coming - it’s up to him. Will he be able to buy his own food? Does he offer to help with chores? Is he responsible?

You said two weeks and you said 19 days. Do you think he would need to be there as long as 19 days. Thank you for your time and concern.
