Don Henley is paying a debt of gratitude to country-pop star Kenny Rogers, who died on March 20 aged 81.
Before he was a member of the Eagles, Henley was in a band named Shiloh. Rogers secured the group a record deal in 1969, and, while taking on the role of producer of their self-titled 1971 album, he brought them to Los Angeles, where Henley first interacted with his future Eagles colleagues.
In addition to his tremendous talent, Kenny was a generous and caring man, a wise mentor to so many of us, Henley told Billboard in a statement. He loved his friends, his family, his fellow musicians and his fans, and they loved him, right back. Fifty years ago, The Gambler took a gamble on me and my first band from small-town Texas, and his big-hearted support launched many careers, including mine. He also gave me some of the best career advice I ever got: 'Youd better be nice to the people you meet on the way up, because youre going to meet those same people on the way back down.
He continued: Kenny had been struggling with a number of health issues for some time. He fought the good fight for as long as he could, but he was tired, and he was ready to make his exit. Im just grateful that I got visit with him in the hospital, about six weeks ago, and convey my gratitude to him for all he did for me. RIP, my friend. Thanks for all the gladness you gave us.
A statement from Rogers family said that a small private service was being planned for his funeral out of coronavirus concerns, but they they aimed to celebrate his life publicly at a later date.
His mom caught him smoking weed in Seger’s basement and banned him from hanging out with him. So he packed his bags and headed to L.A.
And the rest is history.
It’s a shame, because in the 80s he really cleaned up his act and became a health nut. But he admitted the damage had already been done, and it wound up killing him.
Jackson had his own scroungy place, without a bathroom, just above them. They said Jackson nearly ran them nuts playing the same tune over and over, each time with minor changes. The Eagles imitated Jackson's song writing style when they began writing the own songs, they said.
Poor Kenny, I guess someone forgot to drop in to see what
condtion his condition was in.
Yeah it is. I still plan on catching their next live tour show. Glenn’s son took over for him and they added Vince Gill.
It’s pretty interesting how they got Joe Walsh into rehab for a year, no less to get sober when they came back out on tour for the Hell Freezes Over Tour! Joe credits them with saving his life.
They were studio back up band. Toured with Rondstat.
He made it to 81 and change, so he was above the median.
From their album called The Big Lebowski.
Oops, not their album. I was looking at the movie soundtrack.
It doesn’t appear that way, ANYONE with any ‘talent’ makes ‘The Birchmere’, Alexandria their DC stop.
Same owner probably with some ‘new’ money etc...
I remember him when......Guess he would still charge me the regular admission were I try to get in.....HA HA
(I used to bartend there on an as needed basis..he needed a beertender or I ‘needed’ some cash..I was more better on the drinking side of the bar..<: <: <:)
Sorry for the ‘origin’ of this but it is a truthful recap..

IIRC, the only place in the movie where actual CGI (not green-screen) was used was when Jeff Bridges was floating down the bowling alley between the dancers’ legs. They had to make him narrower than he actually is in order to fit the normal dimensions of the dancers, and they used digital animation to do so.
Thanks, I’ll check it out. I recently saw rock documentaries on Netflix on Rush and ZZ Top (both good)
So, its his fault?
and Travis Tritt convinced them to sit back down and talk after they had the rift.
Interesting how these things work out.
One 21 footer and one close lay up does not make a decent game..........
“Henley and Frey played in Rheostats stage band. Both left together to start their own band which became the Eagles.”
IIRC so did Randy Meisner, the Eagles’ bassist.
