Key section on chloroquine below:

The available data are thin. The drugs work by decreasing the acidity in endosomes, compartments inside cells that they use to ingest outside material and that some viruses can coopt to enter a cell. But the main entryway for SARS-Cov-2 is a different one, using its so-called spike protein to attach to a receptor on the surface of human cells. Studies in cell culture have suggested chloroquines have some activity against SARS-CoV-2, but the doses needed are usually high—and could cause serious toxicities.

Encouraging cell study results with chloroquines against two other viral diseases, dengue and chikungunya, didn’t pan out in people in randomized clinical trials. And non-human primates infected with chikungunya did worse when given chloroquine. “Researchers have tried this drug on virus after virus, and it never works out in humans. The dose needed is just too high,” says Susanne Herold, an expert on pulmonary infections at the University of Giessen, Germany.

Results from COVID-19 patients are murky. Chinese researchers who report treating more than 100 patients with chloroquine touted its benefits in a letter in BioScience, but the data underlying the claim have not been published. All in all, more than 20 COVID-19 studies in China used chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine, WHO notes, but their results have been hard to come by. “WHO is engaging with Chinese colleagues at the mission in Geneva and have received assurances of improved collaboration; however, no data has been shared regarding the chloroquine studies.

Researchers in France have published a study in which they treated 20 COVID-19 patients with hydroxychloroquine. They concluded that the drug significantly reduced viral load in nasal swabs. But it was not a randomized controlled trial and it didn’t report clinical outcomes such as deaths. In guidance published on Friday, the US Society of Critical Care Medicine said that “there is insufficient evidence to issue a recommendation on the use of chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine in critically ill adults with COVID-19.”

It looks like getting data from the French and the Chinese is like pulling teeth. I don't get the secrecy. It's kind of BS you expect from these countries in the normal course of events, but these aren't normal times.

Perhaps the mechanism by which coronavirus works is More Susceptible to chloroquine than these other viruses.

That’s what i’m hoping.

Plenty of love for remdesivir, plenty of sceptism for hydroxychloroquine. Note WHO makes no mention of trials with combo hydroxychloroquine and Z pack.

Xlnt informative post. I hope the cheapest drugs win.and I hope there are no skewed results based on monetary reward.

This smells like a hit piece against hydrochloroquine.

Plenty of real life success especially when paired with a zpac azithromycn

WHO’s trying to throw the anchor out on this??

Anyone know why an antibiotic is included?

Well yeah I don’t know much but they’re talking about how it has worked on other viruses.

Well I would image drugs for the flu virus wouldn’t help people with HIV much.

The new virus is a different entity.

I’m glad they were pressured into including it

Though who the hell cares what anybody does we will do it all on our own.

Me neither. WHO is an organization operated by corrupt bureaucrats like the thug nations in the UN.

We may need more than one. The malaria drugs may work unless it mutates.

“Anyone know why an antibiotic is included?”

Because it had shown to be more effective than hydrochloroquine alone in a limited French study. Some kind of synergy. AND it turns out Azithromycin has anti viral properties not just Bacterial.

Exactly my thought. Biased for remdesivir and against hydrochloroquine. They even threw in a dig about the excitement over hydrochloroquine being like a run on toilet paper.

Hydrochloroquine is inexpensive and is ready to go right now. Remdesivir is relatively new and seems to be proprietary to Gilead. I’m guessing remdesivir would need more trials and testing before it could be used widespread. In other words, if it were to become the chosen solution to the exclusion of hydrochloroquine, it seems possible the crisis could be extended.

Easy. China is at war with us. Has been, on the down low, for decades. They don’t want us to know the secret to how it is best treated.

The other possibility is shoddy research. A lot of Chinese research turns out to be crap:

China publishes more science research with fabricated peer-review than everyone else put together
https://qz.com/978037/china-publishes-more-science-research-with-fabricated-peer-review-than-everyone-else-put-together/

I fully understand the point Fauci was making. There have been any number of test tube studies showing a drug eliminating a virus followed by further tests using animals also succeeding. But when humans are tested, the drug fails. At the basic level, it makes sense. Bleach eliminates viruses, including covid-19. Drinking bleach, however, won’t help anyone get rid of a covid-19 infection. And animals don’t react exactly the same way that humans do to a drug. That’s one of the many ways in which species are different - it’s not just the appearance; the plumbing is also different.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Results from french protocol using combo cocktail of hydrochloroquine + zpac azithromycn show 100% effective after 6 days

iirc: bayer is sending US 5mm doses of their chloroquine product & Isreal has offered 3mm doses of their product

Even Dr Oz is touting credible results of actual sucess on fox & friends this am

To continue along that thread, the way these papers work is - you define how the research is done, you publish the results, and other people run the exact same experiment and check the results against yours. The possibility is that the Chinese researchers are fabricating their numbers in order to get an attaboy that will justify getting future grant money from their government.

You know how global warming researchers make up numbers? Fraud isn’t confined to climate researchers. If they release their data and it turns out to be fraudulent because nobody can replicate those results, it’s a huge black eye for the scientists who published the research, both personally and professionally. It might even end their careers.

Are you playing apologist for them here again today?
