Fung-you. The issue is not so much with Type II Diabetes which, for the most part, is a lifestyle disease (like Aids). The bigger concern is for people with Type I Diabetes. My wife is a Type I. She is in great shape, eats healthy (as do I because of her), petite, and looks ten years younger than her 61 years; but we both know that she is at a much higher risk than most people.

Although we are not preppers, for the last several years she has stored several months of food and household supplies “just in case.” ( I also have about 8,000 round of ammo, “just in case.) As I was down-playing the Covid-19, she was planning our quarantine, even though we are not ill. At first, I laughed her off as over-reacting, but because of her diabetes, she is genuinely scared. Earlier this week, I moved her office workstation to a spare bedroom at home and agreed to run my business from our home office to reduce the chances of contracting the virus and spreading it to her. I can see the concern in her eyes and I am doing everything to reassure her that “everything will be OK.”

““They don’t have any special risk of actually getting the virus,” explained Dr. Philip Jameson who is with the American Diabetes Association.”

These IDIOTS cannot even make through the first paragraph without getting it wrong. No wonder people with (Type 2) diabetes are basically given a slow-motion death sentence, and told to ‘deal with it’.

I want to see that source and documentation and not BS from a Clickbait website. I haven’t seen anything like that.

Type-1 diabetics generally don’t keep donuts around the house...

Yes. I just had a quad bypass last month. It did wonders for all sorts of systems.

Good for you! I noticed the same effect when I began a regular exercise routine.

Yes, have him contact HR! I’d guess they don’t even know he has diabetes and asthma. Once that’s known to HR they should contact his manager to excuse him. The legal liability is HUGE if, having notified the company, a high-risk employee is still required to report to work. I’m high risk and have been given huge latitude by my company.

“He is afraid they may fire him for speaking up. Not everyone is secure in their work places. It is scary.”

He cannot be fired for contacting HR. It is called Retaliation and it is against the law. HR does not F around with liabilities to the company. A manager is worth dirt compared to an employee unnecessarily put at risk by that manager. Once HR is contacted he is protected from retaliation on the issue he reports. His manager will get a good scolding or worse and should back way off. Say he goes to work and gets COVID. The company is liable for untold damages since he was forced to work with pre existing conditions known to HR.

It’s the manager making him go to work that needs to worry about being fired. He’s risking millions in liability to the company. HR’s job is to protect the company.

Well they’re just asking for it. What I’m concerned about is the Toe Fungus sufferers. I mean haven’t they gone through enough already....*sniff*

Hardy Har Har.

As someone with an autoimmune disease, I’m glad you find this situation so amusing.

Spare me. I’m 64 with a hereditary blood disease that can cause a laundry list of terminal issues. But that’s ok because my blood pressure will probably get me first.

Bottom line? We’re all gonna die, it just won’t be from this bug for over 90% of us.

He got up the nerve to speak to HR and he will be off from work as of tomorrow. He must however give back his vacation time and sick leave in exchange. He is good with that.

Thanks for letting me know. I am glad he’ll be safe. Hopefully, when all the ramifications of this are done, they will give him back sick time and vacations.

He thinks they will too especially after the office learned that a substitute janitor tested positive for the virus. My oldest child is an ER Nurse in Florida and calls us daily to keep us abreast of what is going on at her facility. They do not have enough gloves and masks. It is truly frightening. Please keep them in your prayers.

Great to hear it. And because he went thru HR he’ll be protected from Manager funnybusiness.
