I think they carried number 2 Magnum pencils.
I kept waiting for Broderick Crawford to drive up in his old Buick.
In 1992 I trained with the LAPD CRASH unit. They did all their reports in No. 2 pencil at that time. I was stunned. I was from a mid-sized, (300+) department, and we were computerized and required to use pen for any reports not done on word processor.
