I think the USA is in big trouble

here in IL we have a “shelter in place” and all non-essential business are closed.

The problem is most people are still working because the federal code of what an “essential” business is so broad

for example there is a factory here that makes laffy taffy and other candy and since they are “food “ they are staying open

The huge Caterpillar plants are staying open because they make mining and earthmoving equipment..even though orders are crashing and they have lots of inventory building up....many of these same workers forced to work the next 14 days will be laid off soon anyway..so why not shut down now

Walmart is packed here...wall to wall people....but many aren’t buying food but are just bored with the malls closed and want something to do so they look around at TV’s and other non-food stuff

At this point in the game, my only concern is that we don’t allow our number of serious cases to overrun our current supply of the antivirals before we can start seriously manufacturing that in ‘mass quantities’.

And this doesn’t mutate around that compound.

That would be a disaster.

I feel for the caterpillar people. One of their biggest markets IIRC was China. Regardless of what happens here, they’re going to hurt from that alone.

Let’s pray we have a huge economic bounce here this summer/fall when this is all over but the shouting that they make up the slack.

Yes, far too, too broad.

Trump is sounding old and tired.

It seems to me that places like WalMart should institute occupancy limits if need be.

On a personal note, as of today I am now unemployed (the companies I do work for are all getting hammered) and since all my present work is 1099, no unemployment comp. Have decent savings, but that won’t last long. Investments / retirement $$ (very modest) look like hell. SS is over a year off, and won’t be much, then. Wifey works as pre-school teacher (parochial school) but pay is crap. I think the janitor gets more.

Wunnerful.

Gonna have to get really creative & find an energy boost somewhere...
