Im surprised the author didnt mention the combination of hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) with Azithromycin which seems to have the greatest efficacy.
Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) with Azithromycin has a small scale open label test with a control group that showed efficacy. The safety profile of those drugs is well known.
That combination of drugs does not require any compassionate use exemption, since both drugs are FDA approved, and Azithromycin is widely recommended for treatment of pneumonia.
It is misleading for the article's author to suggest only anecdotal evidence exists, there are multiple clinical studies from China with positive results as well.
