I’ve always found it a little strange that no one ever mentions the fact that the three rapists in the song were named “The Gatlin Boys” .

As you probably know, at the time of this song’s popularity, there was a popular Country trio called “The Gatlin Brothers”. I’ve always wondered if The Gatlin Brothers ever objected to the three rapist brothers in the song being named “Gatlin”, since the real “Gatlin Brothers” also consisted of three brothers?

It’s not important, but I’ve always found it interesting that no one ever mentions that fact.

Not only that but Larry Gatlin (of the Gatlin Brothers) actually had a girlfriend named Becky, which is also the name of the girl who got raped in the song. Yeah, I find it curious that the Gatlins never sued over that one or at least made a fuss of it.

Another piece of trivia, the Gatlin Brothers sang the national anthem at the 1989 World Series in San Francisco. Seconds after they finished, a major earthquake (the 6.9 Loma Prieta) rolled through the area.
