“Spain and Iran also show huge jumps...”

Only in terms of absolute numbers. The rate of growth for the virus is going down in both countries, esp. Iran. The daily rate of growth of new cases is only around 6% for today and yesterday in Iran. Last week it was around 12%. In late February it was in the 50s. Iran has had between 1000 and 1200 new cases per day for about a week now. The numbers are no longer shooting upward like they used to be but plateauing. This is important because this is what happened in China and South Korea before their numbers of new cases started dropping in absolute terms too.

Spain has a long way to go, but their daily increase today was 13%, while yesterday it was 22% and the day before 25%, so even that country is moving in the right direction even if it doesn’t look like it. Trends are important.

Iran appears to stop reporting this or that statistic intermittently and for several days.

The change in active cases is going down in Iran. Active cases are still increasing, but at a slower rate as more people recover relative to new people being infected. This is needed if hospital beds and supplies are limited.
