The technician just introduced a counterfeit medical device, associated with the ventilator manufacturer’s medical device. Off the top of my head, I can’t recall the reg but it’s akin to a “misbranded” drug. The EU MDR’s have similar regs/laws and the requirement for Medicinal Products manufactures to have procedures in place to mitigate.

Sure did, regulations don’t care and the manufacturer would be open to regulatory actions including, the mandatory recall of the device, production shutdown & inventory lockdown.

The rules are intended to protect the patient. The resourceful tech, whom I applaud, should’ve kept it on the down low but why would anyone think of the need?
