Jeremy Lin rips Trump for ‘empowering’ racism with talk of ‘Chinese Virus’
President Trump said Wednesday that his use of the term “Chinese Virus” was “not racist at all.” Among those who might strongly take issue with that assertion would be Jeremy Lin, given his criticism of the president on Tuesday.
Lin, a California native of Taiwanese descent who last year became the first Asian American player to help a team win an NBA title as a member of the Toronto Raptors, posted several tweets accusing Trump of “empowering” racism by using the term and saying the president was contributing to a menacing climate for Asian Americans in the wake of the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The Chinese, themselves, are going to call it that, themselves. It may begin to look contained in Wuhan, soon, but I expect it to reemerge in waves throughout China. They’ll name it for where it came from, as most people would.
Outside of China, and in the general, I think “Chinese Virus” is sufficient.
Trump may be even ahead of the game, since months from now, or less, this won’t be contained to Wuhan at all, inside China.

My wife is an American (3rd generation) of Chinese ethnicity. She has no problem with the designation “Chinese virus” and thinks people like Lin are over-the-top silly taking offense at it.
