Red Flag laws got this started. May as well throw in...”my neighbor is coughing AND I think he’s unhinged and has a gun”

I miss the good old days when they only called 911 when McDonald’s got their order wrong.

“Snitches get stitches and wind up in ditches”. Old Bronx (and probably elsewhere in NYC) idiom.

Jeez. Remembering the days of bong hits they would have been busy.

In my neck of the Upstate NY woods we call our coughing neighbor to see if he or she needs anything.

What bothers me here....within a five-mile circle of this guy, there’s probably three people with tuberculous, and no one seems to be worried about that.

It’s called hysteria. It’s embarrassing!

Yes. Everyone’s allergies are acting up here. I was standing in the check out line at the grocery store yesterday and coughed. Just a little one, nothing major. Should’ve seen the looks I got. I said.....not sick. Everyone is in hysterics here.

People have gone insane. And if you say that here, you’re a pariah!

That’s why restaurants are closed. Anyone choking is on his own. No one would volunteer to do a Heimlich maneuver.

....

You got that right!

There are only 9,276 global deaths from coronavirus, and we’re made to believe by the Fake News (and sadly, a fair number of FReepers!) that the apocalypse has come in the form of COVID-19. They also want you to ignore the fact that most recover from this. Good grief, since October, we’ve lost nearly 45,000 Americans from Influenza! But in their warped world, this means absolutely nothing!

Mass hysteria is a truly frightening thing to behold! The amount of economic damage this could do to our nation is scary! As you said: “People have gone insane!”

Hysterical freepers have a new meme: if you think this is overblown and destroying the economy, that is because you are after your old ma and pa’s money. You’re a greedy pig. Considering that Free Republic skews old and older, it’s an amazingly dumb attack to employ.

There’s hysterical people on all sides of this. This is an extraordinary event.

People trying to rationalize what is occurring by irrationally comparing this to other things that also kill are doing it for a reason.

I have two theories on why, they are just theories. First is some of them are trying to keep people calm. Second is they are doing what they can to keep the economy from crashing, because the economy is essentially the activity of people, and if people are at home terrified, we don’t have an economy.

Other people like me, who are diabetic and have had two heart attacks and also takes care of his elderly mother on a daily basis, because she absolutely needs that, are scared sh!tless, and I don’t really appreciate people telling me that I have no reason to be scared, because I do, and I am. In an hour, I have to go pick up a 3 month supply of my drugs from Walmart, and I’m sweating it big time.

Anywho, all that being said, I hope you and all of your loved ones are well, miss marmelstein!

well I’d be pro-active in your shoes.....I’d call my physician to find out what steps you’d have to take if you showed symptoms...and what medications (over the counter) you should have at home to treat symptoms, and get them just in case.

I’d find out if there’s a ‘meals on wheels’ in case you can’t prepare meals....this way you both have food if you’re quaraintiened at home.

I understand social security will not be affected so your mom at least will continue to have income.

If you’re fretting then just do what you can control to secure the home the best you can. ....and leave the rest with the Almighty.

I think people have genuine concerns and should. But people calling police on neighbors coughing is not their business.
