It does sound that the more aggressive strain, what they were calling “L strain”, must be the one hitting the east coast.

Where are all the stories about all the people who are recovering just fine?
This massive overreaction is going to doom us all!
You can bet New Yawk will get first dibs on the two medical ships of the Navy.
Well that doesn’t sound good at all.
Numbers of cases are quickly going up in quite a few states. Here’s the most updated map that I could find so far.
Sources: State and local health agencies, hospitals, C.D.C. Data as of 10:26 p.m. E.T., Mar. 17.

53,000 Beds. Not 3000.
18% hospitalized?! Not good, running at 8% in some other countries.
19%!!! Wow, WAY more than I’ve heard before. Now we understand why “flattening the curve” will be so crucial. There just aren’t enough hospital beds otherwise.
High % of hospitalization? Whats up with that?
When you are primarily testing those admitted your serious percentage is skewed.
The article does not say how many were tested because as we all know, massive test results are coming in nation wide.
Why does it read like an effort to try and score political narrative that Trump is not doing enough? (Damned propaganda, thats why!)
The numbers of infected is going up because we are testing more.
At some point we will understand how serious this is.
Big jumps in the numbers are scary but, we have been expecting such.
Convert the city football stadiums to MASH units - crash train nurses who can monitor vitals and ventilators. Get factories in the ball to start cranking out ventilators.
Its all weve got.
So which NYCity report is correct or are both incorrect?
New York City reports 923 coronavirus cases, 10 deaths

New Yorks total number of coronavirus cases is up to 923 with 10 deaths as of Tuesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) said.
The numbers gone up literally over a hundred cases in the course of the day. Were at 923 cases at th his hour tonight, 10 people who have passed away, de Blasio said on MSNBC Tuesday evening. Its unbelievable how rapidly this crisis is growing right now.
Asked by MSNBCs Rachel Maddow whether the city was still considering a shelter in place order akin to that of San Francisco, the mayor responded This is something, as I said at a press conference today, that could only be done in conjunction with the state of New York. What Im trying to say to people is, look at this movement, were seeing, its tragic.
The idea of shelter in place has to be considered now, it has to be done between, in our case, the city and state working together, respecting the states role, de Blasio added, saying his intent was to communicate that New Yorkers should get ready for the possibility, because its not so distant an idea at this point.

Good test of whether Cuomos mouth can keep up with reality.
Are they being quarantined in the hospital ?
Worse, of the 3,000 - 2,700 are occupied!
The entire state of new york only has 53,000 hospital beds?
Seems not a right number for a larger population state.
Or were they actually saying NYCity, not the entire state?
They have more than 3,000 beds, doofus
national total of us hospital beds decreased 35% from 1.5 million in 1975 to 931,000 in 2017
