I believe this chart will support or compliment the chart that you've posted. As one can see, diagnosed cases (yellow) in a sense (falsely) represent current events, as to the reality on the ground. So, when we learn of positive infections through real time testing, we can extrapolate the figures into useful predictive data, that indicates an equal or greater number of contagious people (gray) that have been infecting others for a substantial and unchecked period of time. Ouch!

Hmm. The only good thing about those curves is that the Italy curve appears to have gone linear.
