Do you know, I actually had forgotten B.R. was dead. He died around the same time as one of my best friends did (from brain cancer) and I guess I was so caught up I stopped paying attention to popular culture.
Watching Hello Dear Ancestors on Iqiyi.
Time travel love story that ranges between Han Dynasty China and modern China.
Production values are top notch. Enjoying it hugely. Iqiyi is the Netflix of China,
Not the worst movie ever, but it was over-hyped for what it delivered.
That seven minutes at the end was unbelievable!
Love it. Love QT’s use of music to set mood. Love the ending.
I thought it was a nice historical touch that the LA freeways of 1969 were actually drivable, not jam-packed with traffic.
I remember visiting there, I had cousins in California.
California of the 60s was an amazing place.
Then too many people moved there.
Like Phoenix, Houston, and Atlanta.
Good begining that slides into an ending almost as horrible as the horrific “The Hateful Eight”.
I’ve only seen maybe 3 or 4 of QT’s movies but this was by far my favorite of the ones I’ve seen. Would definitely watch it again in the right setting.
Weirdly enough I had never seen The Godfather. I was slightly underage when it came out though I wanted to watch it I was always seeing it on already on cable and didn’t want to see it partway through.
I didn’t even know it was set in the 40’s. Did a real nice job of fitting the time period in the film but then it was only 1972 so only 25 years difference. The only ‘out of time’ thing I saw, I think, was where they drove out to the grassy area to kill the guy who claimed he was ‘sick’ and there were very modern (70’s modern, LOL) metal guardrails set up with spacers etc that weren’t used like that in the 40’s.
I was in LA a half dozen times over the past decade and thought it still had a cool vibe, but it’s smothered in people and traffic. Really the traffic is the deal breaker for me. You can’t do anything out there without taking the traffic into account. It’s this omnipresent drag on everything.
SNL has a hilarious skit called the Californians it centers around Californias obsession with traffic. Enjoy!

Not sure where to start....no plot, poor character development and simply boring. I honestly turned it off in the last 10 minutes and read about the ending on Wiki. QT and his fascination with women’s dirty bare feet is weird.
“no plot, poor character development and simply boring.”
I consider it a series of loosely coupled stories. The two guys were sorta being their cool selves. It wasn’t boring to me but was to my wife.
I get it, just thought the hype didn’t live up to the product.
Great movie! The ending was cathartic. Glad to hear it bears up under repeat viewing.
Yes, the Brad Pitt character supposedly based on Hal Needham...
Spot on!
Godfather II is better than I.
The re-creation of the 60s failed to exhibit artisans of the time. Few leather and crafts were seen, which really highlighted the common art in that era. Something very lacking in today’s society.
“Godfather II is better than I.”
I’ve heard that. I know it won the Best Picture Oscar that year. It’s actually on tap for next Sunday’s Movie night!!!
