When it comes to the flu, I don’t think anything is absolute. If you get a flu shot, it doesn’t guarantee you wont get the flu. It just makes it harder to get it.

Folks can still get the flu but it won’t be nearly as bad and won’t last as long-

The flu shot is just the best guess of preventing the most likely flu viruses. I think this year they said it was 48% effective which they thought was good. This article is total irresponsible fear mongering.

Well first, this isn't a flu at all, it's a coronavirus. Same family as 15% of the common cold. Which, incidentally, shows that yes, you likely can be re-infected. Seeing as how people can catch the cold multiple times a year, some of those are certainly repeats of the same (common cold) coronavirus.
And the flu is a wide variety of different types (A, B, C, D) (H#,N#), and various strains within that. The flu shot generally covers 2-3 types of A-type viri, as well as the B flu. (If I remember correctly, C is so mild it's ignored, and D is non-human infecting.) But the A-type is very widespread, and it's just a wild-ass guess on what types will be the dominant strains that need vaccination for the upcoming flu season.

For years now we have been told that when producing the yearly supply of flu vaccine the manufacturers have to make a guess at what strain of flu will be most likely that season. Most times they guess right, but occasionally they get it wrong and the flu vaccine is less helpful.
It is my understanding that covid-19 is similar. Going forward it may mean that whatever vaccine is created each year they are just going to have to guess what variant is most likely to hit the population.
If covid is like other viral infections then this will be with us for the foreseeable future and the recent panic will be seen as an overreaction that decimated the global economy.
