“Hundreds of times more people have died from the common flu, based on what I’ve seen.”

Everybody has been exposed to the flu, many times, every season. We have herd immunity and vaccines.

Nobody has been exposed to this and there is no herd immunity or vaccine.

CV kills at least 10 time as many infected people as the flu.

The whole point of the reaction by governments around the world is to keep the case count low while we develop countermeasures. Like a vaccine.

If this spreads like the flu it will overwhelm our HCS and kill 1 in 15 like in Italy. There will be additional deaths because the HCS won’t be able to handle the heart attacks, crash victims, strokes, common flu, etc., either.

The hysteria comes from all the people that were told “it’s just the flu” who suddenly find themselves unprepared for the social distancing, closures, lockdowns, cancellations, quarantines and so forth that are happening here and now. We’ve been saying for 6 weeks “it might”, and then, “it will” happen, but the complacents thought it was more important to sling insults and spout conspiracy theories.

How many more people will need to die before the complacents admit it isn’t just the flu?

Thank you for the reply. There did seem a deep disconnect from what I’ve observed, and noted from online sources, and the extent of reactions from local to global.

To be safe, I’ve kept my hands washed after every contact with the unfamiliar. Kept my phones disinfected, my lap tops. I discounted the danger, nonetheless. However,. It seems like half of LA is shut down. The balance, certainly in terms of grocery stores and the like, are being bought out in panic-fashion.

We’ve gotten a lot of rain, which is something of a novelty here. It’s my understanding that flu viruses of every strain do poorly when the weather warms. I’ve evidently not cared enough before to pay attention, but now ... ?

If you don’t mind, where are you, btw?

I’ve spent time in Italy and have friends there. It’s a horror show, for sure. All my close Italian friends have made there way here to the States.

It all just seems such overkill to me. That said, nothing exactly like this has occurred in my lifetime.

I’m listening.

No one I’ve come across in LA has encountered a victim of any variant of the flu. Or anywhere else I’ve been the past few months. This doesn’t mean anything apart from what it says.

If one in fifteen will lose their lives in Italy, there are many ways of reading this.

In your view, how concerned should we be? Those of us native to the country; those who’ve taken early refuge here like my friends?

Because I’ve been trying to calm everyone with word this is all over-blown. Based on the best information I had at the time.
