He also has asked hospitals to end elective procedures by end of the day on Wednesday. He said it will be left up to the hospitals to determine what is elective procedures, but he expects to need the hospitals to be ready to deal with COVID-19-related issues.

So surgeons and nurses will sit around and wait for a customer to come in while someone doesn't get a defibrillator implanted?

l doubt a defibrillator implant would be considered elective.

I am not going to go get any surgery that can be delayed a few months while this covid crap is on the uptick. Hospital acquired infections are a thing and I don’t feel like getting kicked when I’m already down.

Covid may not be particularly severe in most people, but trying to recover from a surgery and the Wuflu at the same time would be a tough row to hoe.
