Tons of hatching eggs on Ebay. Most of the sellers have pretty good survivability rates, but check their reviews before buying.
... a good safe distance into the woods!
Or sometimes 1 ea. into the bottom of a deep hole for a tomato plant. ;-)
Great pic!
Is that hen an Australorp?
Thanks - I’ll check it out!
I found one operation just searching online that sold Buckeye hatching eggs, except that many years they don’t, or they run out early. eBay - yeah, I’ve bought a lot of items there, including the computer I’m using right now. I ALWAYS check reviews & feedback meticulously - I’ve even bought 4 cars on eBay, over the years! No regrets on any of the big stuff. :-)
No luck on Buckeye hatching eggs. Local farm supply store is out of chicks too.
Are Black Marans good mousers? Local seller (found on eBay) has eggs. But I think I have to buy 12 at a time. Guess we could resell some or eat most of the roosters.
SUPER-DUPER COBB SALAD
served w/ HERBED SCALLION FLATBREAD
For as much as I love to cook and bake, I will admit that a Tossed Salad with garden-fresh ingredients, Buttermilk Ranch Dressing (also home made) some freshly baked bread and a glass of Merlot would probably be my request for my ‘Last Meal.’
I’m not PLANNING on getting into THAT kind of trouble, but one should always have a, ‘Plan B.’ ;)
She looks like one, doesn’t she? Great breed - amazing egg layer!
My two favorite hens: Buff Orpington and Black Australorp.
OK, three - I really like Black Laced Silver Wyandotte, too.
When I was letting my flock dwindle, as I was no longer going to be in The Egg Biz, my last two hens were a Buff named ‘Cagney’ and a Wyandotte named ‘Lacy.’ ;)
Sounds like a very good plan to me.
Sorry about your funerals. I got peas, carrots beet all growing well. Several pepper volunteers already. It’z been a not so cold winter. My corn if this holds
should bee harvest ready by June/July. Apples in august wow. Bees are all dead. Thank you Mr. Bear. Hoping for some migrants to set up shop. Got a nice couple condos waiting for you.
They are good. Little bitter but good.
Cheaper then a red bull in most parts. It is good.
At this time I have not mowed. I got tons of scallions in the lawn. Can I use them instead?
Wild scallions are stronger-tasting than the garden variety.
Myself...... I would not use them.
Others might.
Thanks y’all!
Plenty here, will try.
Great idea...what kind of grow lights are you using? I know nothing about grow lights and am trying to avoid building an outside cold frame. TIA.
See Post #101 for a picture. They’re not cheap! Look on-line for other ideas if you want to built your own. I could only afford it because the one I bought was damaged and I worked at a garden center. ;) (I didn’t damage it, LOL!)
For YEARS I got by with shop lights and bricks and boards in my Fieldstone basement that stayed a consistent 55 degrees all year ‘round. Worked great. Again, lots of smart people on-line sharing their ideas for home-made grow light racks.
Using the banks of lights for bottom heat really sped up the germination process. My tomatoes are up, too - within a week! They are now under the lights.
16 hours on, 8 off. Set a timer or if you have an average life, ON when you get up, OFF when you go to bed while you’re getting seedlings started.
Thank you for taking the time to fill me in. This will work in our cooler climate to get a head start on things.
Glad to help! Stop by anytime with your questions. We have a lot of excellent gardeners here who have seen it all. :)
Let me know and I’ll add you to our Ping List. Just a once-a-week ping.
