My great-uncle, who was born in 1880, grew up on a dairy farm, and died at the age of 97 used to keep silver dollars in his milk jugs. Said it kept the milk fresh.

Interesting. As I understand it, used in the right way (e.g., on some medical equipment) silver is a good antibacterial for surfaces. There also looks to be conflicting evidence as to whether the same is true generally for viruses.
