Ive been ruminating on the promises that the Census Bureau incessantly makes regarding data security; that our information is protected by law. Well, Im not impressed.
The Bureau says that strict fines and penalties are in place for divulging data illegally (what and the magnitude of those fines and penalties are is never revealed.) Regardless, fines and penalties, even up to incarceration are not enough to protect us by law from theft, burglaries, rape and murder. Once those crimes are committed against us, they can never be UNcommitted by ANY action of law.
So, our information is leaked, the responsible party (who will be held responsible is also never made clear: the low-level clerk, his supervisor, an area director?) gets his hand slapped. We are left out do dry with any fallout. So, is there any compensation made to the victim for this illegal activity (not that that would undo the data compromise.)
AND, if we refuse to complete the census, or give untrue answers, how is any prosecution supposed to result, since we are PROMISED that no information given (or no information at all) will be divulged to law enforcement for investigatory action?
Maybe thats why no one has been charged with failing to participate?
Why worry about census confidentiality when 99% is on the inter web? S/
“2 people reside at this residence” is all they get...no real privacy issue with that piece of info..
Then why cant the Census Bureau is the interweb to glean the data they need?
Do you ever get a knock on your door to complete your census with what you answer?
What kind of questions (other than numerical ones) do they ask?
Other than counting, which is required by the constitution, do they ask for any other kind of info (age, race, gender, etc.)?
And how does one answer “race”, and “gender”, when all this is fluid and according to the whim of the responder?
I only remember blowing off several “knock attempts” 10 years ago. I believe we filled out the paper version with my “2 people live here” answer...then I ignored the door knocker. They eventually gave up.
We only filled out the names and number of people at our home. Thats all that the Constitution says is needed.
Theres a threat you could be fined $3,000, but the government never presses it, because they are afraid they would lose and the bully pulpit they have would disappear.
https://2020census.gov/en/about-questions.html They ask names of all the people residing at your residence, relationship to the primary responder, race, and Hispanic origin or not. They also ask what type of home your dwelling is: house, apartment, mobile home, cardboard box, etc. They also ask for a phone number.
They ask each persons name, sex, date of birth, race and relationship to the primary responder.
I’m not worried about census confidentiality. I will fill it out to make sure I am counted. Got an email from my commie congresscritter, Joe Neguse, today about the census with the catch phrase “You Count” and it was repeated in Spanish. “Tu Cuentas.” It’s pretty obvious what he’s trying to accomplish there.
I’m sure you can trust the Census Bureau every bit as much as you can trust every other government operation.
Got the thing today in the mail. Went online and did it. Questions were how many, names, ages (DOB), sex (M/F only), race and ethnicity, will they be here on 4/1. Will I have anyone else here on 4/1. Far fewer questions than the 2010.
I found that if you skip something, it will not move forward once. Hit the next button again, you can skip some blanks (phone number was one). Not sure what all it will allow you to skip.
FedGov can KMA. Not answering it, period. Same as 2010 - no response. They don’t like it, tough sh*t.
What I will put on the census form, if I do anything at all, will be
“HERE”
Ill be doing the paper form. Never trust a government website to do anything right or secure.
Nobody will ask me anything this year - I’m putting a ‘Coronavirus Quarantine Zone’ sign on our locked, gated, private road.
LOL! Let me know how that goes.
If you mail in the form, you could include a SAMPLE of your DNA.
We got their letter today saying to fill it out online.
There was nothing I saw that said a US Mail census would arrive if we don’t do it online. It did have the usual threat of a personal visit if it was not filled out online. I prefer to mail it in.
By the way... if dems say it’s racist to ask people to get to the DMV for an ID to vote... why is it not racist/presumptuous to assume people have a computer to fill out the damned census???!!!
