The final analysis is really quite simple: the downside effects of a premature shut-down are deferred, unrealized losses. It's not like the economy will be thrown into some kind of semi-permanent depression. Rather, it just lets the nation go take a hike for a month or two before everyone is fully charged to get working again.
OTOH, the downside effects of a delayed shut-down (assuming one would act anyway with days of viewing the growth log chart) are very real, very substantial hits to the underlying US & global economies; ones that may not be so easy to recover. And, of course there are the human costs, as well as resonating medical effects across the spectrum of regular needs and demands.
So, like Ike writing two letters on the eve of D-Day, you make your decision and go with it. Trump made his last night, and the nation is now on full tilt shut-down as secondary executive decisions cascade through state governments and private, commercial companies.
As of now, the debate over good, bad, true or false are all moot. The only issue now is management in the new normal as we implement the author's final recommendations, which are hard stop isolation decrees. (See Italy for progression from denial to action.)
LOL, there’s some limited allowances for people to move about in Shanghai and Beijing but they may not be for long if the latest news/leaks about re-infections in Wuhan are true.
Our best bet is to assume its as bad as the Spanish Flu until proven otherwise.

I already wash my hands religiously during flu season, because I don't want the flu. I have never had the flu (I am in my 50s) despite commuting on NYC trains and subways for decades, and never had a flu shot. It is rare to contract these viruses via the air. Don't touch your face. Use a sleeve. Or let the itch alone. I use 91% isopropyl alcohol. I don't trust "sanitizer" to kill anything. I drink green (Matcha) tea every day, along with Vitamin D3. Most Vitamin C is useless, unless you buy pure essentials powder. Multivitmains don't work. NONE of them do.
It is incredible that the market has lost a year of value from this imbecilic panic, which will be over in 2 months.
2.8 million deaths per year in the US. 13.6 deaths per year by assault rifle. We are logical about that.
2.8 million deaths per year; 54,000 deaths per week. 220,000 deaths per month? 70% of those deaths are seniors 65 and over.
Most of the deaths from COVID-19 (probably far more than 70%) are seniors with weakened immune systems. Most COVID-19 deaths in the US will be seniors who would have died in the next year anyway of respiratory disease, or car crash or other top 10 killer. (Suicide is not a top 10 for Seniors like it is for the younger set.)
So there will be deaths. But in the context of 2.8 million deaths, it will be a concern, but not the end of the world.
I guess we have to remember that this is a small sampling of people from a country of a billion or so. They tell me that they no longer hear of anyone coming down with it. I only know of one individual in Wuhan and he just posts videos of himself doing exercises (he is a PE teacher). They are quite bored and ready to leave their isolation.
So it’s 9g C (maybe 12) + 3g NAC in 9oz water & sip all day.

Just hang your but over the bathtub and use that sprayer to clean your butt. It actually does a better job.
If I were confined to my home I have sufficient food and water for several months. If I lost electricity I can still cook with propane stored in abundance. A small camp stove is most efficient hooked up to a big 5 gallon propane bottle of which I have several. If we lost water I have much in storage. I also have a nearby lake withing walking distance. 5cc of chlorax will make 5 gallons of that water safe. I live on many acres with abundant game and wood for fire. It would not be pleasant, but I will survive!
The real hell of it is if we lost water and electricity we are talking about societal collapse. That will not happen as water and electricity and natural gas are a number one priority.

Went to Academy today to buy some 40 caliber S&W for a new weapon. I was not trying to stock up as I have ample in other calibers. I just wanted to try out my new weapon. There were only five boxes on the shelf. The shelf had many empty spaces on it. A very nice gentleman was looking for the same thing in that caliber. I took two boxes and he took the remaining three. He was a very nice guy. We talked for a few minutes about weapons and calibers. It was most pleasant.
He was a black man with his white wife of whom was most gracious. She did not talk much as we were just talking guns and calibers. I suspect he is conservative.

It seems like it is primarily old and weakened individuals dying early. This is much better than infants and the young people dying. I say that as an older person. We should be ready to meet our maker at any time and actually be looking forward to be being with God. If you are not, now is the time to reassess your priorities, regardless of age.
From the government’s standpoint, it should help Social Security trust fund balances and perhaps may reduce overall healthcare costs in the long run.
