Yesterday, Germany’s Angela Merkel predicted that 60-70% of that country's population of roughly 85 million would come down with the virus. Really? Based on what? 1 in 17,000 in China but 7 in 10 in Germany? .......................... Why would Russia have only 15 cases? The world’s highest incidence rate could be in Iran, if the official numbers represent just a small fraction of the actual caseload as some non-government sources in the country suggest. Iranian leadership has been decimated by the virus, which has not occurred anywhere else.

Just went by my local health store. A former neighbor owns the place. She’s disgusted by the paranoia and panic. Good for business, but she tells her customers that the best way to fight this thing is to turn off the news.
I have a question about all these reports from Italy. I admit that reading the statements on here that are supposedly coming from doctors in Italy have concerned me. However, in all of the news media I am seeing reports that Italy has shut down its tourist industry and its public events.
I am not seeing news reports about hospitals overwhelmed and letting people die because they don’t have enough ventilators, and refusing to even treat many patients.
Unlike Communist China, Italy is not a closed society and it is open to the world media.
Am I missing these sensational news reports or are the and a dotal stories here exaggerated or untrue?
Hardly conclusive, but early studies indicate that the incubation rate could be as short as 4 days.
If that turns out to be accurate, and the experience here in the United States seem to bear it out, where are all the sick and dying people?

but he is correct...a better way to compare cases is number of cases per million people in each country not the total raw case counts

China took draconian measures that we aren’t willing to take in the US. And we are behind on testing.
We’re still telling people not to wear masks, whereas Chinese officers will slap you repeatedly if you appear in public without a mask.
China not only quarantined people that had the virus, but communities self-quarantined against anyone coming in with the virus.
Bringing out the National Guard in NYC to quarantine a community and stopping flights from Europe is as close as we’ve come.
Plus nobody is really sure China’s numbers are honest and not just reporting a decline because Xi said heads would roll if there wasn’t a decline.
SKorea which has tested 200,000 people is the gold standard on managing the virus.
The high rate in Italy is an interesting case. Why would it be so high there?
Is Italy less organized than South Korea?
Are the Italian people less likely to take such problems seriously? Less likely to cooperate with public health authorities?
Is it all that hugging and kissing they do?

Cause they have an even lower death rate than China, at just 0.75% and the incidence of new infections has sharply dwindled too. Plus they have tested huge numbers there as well.

This has raised the question of why Italy has suffered more than other countries to date?
Many Italians in Northern Italy have sold their leather goods and textiles companies to China. Italy then allowed 100,000 Chinese workers from Wuhan and Wenzhou to move to Italy to work in these factories, with direct flights between Wuhan and Northern Italy. This continued post outbreak, so is it mere coincidence that Northern Italy is now Europe’s hotspot for Corona Virus?
The murky reality is that the EU turned a blind eye to vast numbers of illegal Chinese immigrants working in Italian factories. The ‘Open Borders’ EU will of course try to keep this under wraps, but reality is, the Chinese Mafia operate Italian textile factories with tens of thousands of illegal immigrants shipping ‘made in Italy’ goods into China and elsewhere.
Why didn’t the EU act to stop corrupt Italians taking backhanders from the Chinese mafia?
