>>> Actions that prevent rapid spread always seem to be over the top.

Yes, from an epidemiological point of view, it’s unfortunate, but the time for action is early, when action is likely to be mistaken for overreaction. And when the action works, and prevents the spread of the disease, people a month from now will say “See?! We overreacted!” Just like Y2K. Because all the preparation work was successful, those who literally don’t know what they’re talking about say Y2K was a hoax, too. It’s a no-win situation for those who really do know what they’re talking about.

That's exactly right. I was in the IT field then over two companies and I made darn sure that everything we had and all our vendors were y2k compliant...and so did every IT pro around the world. WE stopped Y2K.

Well put.
Our Founders knew ‘democracy’ has its faults and limited it in our system.
The ‘obvious’ isn’t always so.

This pandemic is a giant flaming bag of poop dumped on Trump’s doorstep.

There really is no win at all for him with this. Don’t do enough, dead bodies. Dead bodies leading on every news site. Do just enough, economy hurts and people think you are an idiot who killed the economy for no darned good reason.

Just do the best he can and hope he doesn’t have thousands of dead people in November and the economy isn’t hurt TOO bad and maybe has a chance to recover.

One thing he has no control over...the supply chains from china. And the supplies of medical equipment. All he can do is encourage production here.

The way I see it, the thing that's going to slow down the spread the best at this point is those who appear healthy quarantining themselves.

That will help in two ways.

One is that if they are really healthy, they are far less likely to or won't catch it.

The other is, if they have been exposed and are carrying it, they won't be spreading it around to others unwittingly. And unfortunately, I think there are far more in that category than most people would feel comfortable with.
