One of the nations top health officials leading the coronavirus response on Wednesday admitted it is a failing that individuals cannot easily get tested for the disease in the U.S.
The system is not really geared to what we need right now what you are asking for, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told a member of Congress during a House Oversight and Reform hearing Wednesday.
That is a failing. It is a failing. Let's admit it, he said.
Fauci made the remarks under questioning from Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) about why people who need testing havent been able to get it, including nurses who are taking care of coronavirus patients.
The idea of anybody getting it easily the way people in other countries are doing it, we're not set up for that. Do I think we should be? Yes, but we're not.

You mean once you are dead, they can’t tell what caused your death.
expanding ventilator capacity and ICU capacity is extremely NOT cost effective and not practical.....it will cost YOU and ME mega dollars to have such equipment and the needed personal on standby....
Exactly. You’re still just as dead, but of “unknown aetiology.” Much better!
btw, if you think they tested everybody with symptoms when H1N1 was around, you are wrong.....they tested for plain old flu and if it was negative, they assumed you had H1N1 and reported it as such......
It could just be labeled pneumonia or any close classification... even the common flu.
I want THAT on my tombstone.
Why are we not able to mass test people yet other countries can? I have yet to see a reason why.
Then I should be panicking over pneumonia, corona virus, AND the common cold.
This conversation is circular.
I’m reminded of another Proust.
It is what will save lives in another5 or 6 weeks, most likely.
It’s where the rubber meets the road and where we should have been investing for the last 2+ months.
And personnel don’t have to be on standby, just trained up so they can operate there, rather than more general environments, as needed.
I said nothing about panicking. You asked where thousands were denied testing and I posted one of the many news reports.
If I thought thousands were denied tests, I WOULD BE PANICKING.
Go away...newb
Well...that was nice. /s
I panicked weeks ago when it happened. It helped me and my loved ones prepare better. If you have to panic, panic early.
You need to squeeze your balls...if you have them.
BWAHAHAHAHA.
Are there thousands of people who want to be tested and are denied??
Have we heard from one or two or three people here, who have wanted to be tested and were denied?
WTH is Fauci talking about?
Oh, you must get referred by a Doc?
Where are the people affected who should be complaining?
**************************************
From what I have heard, this testing unavailability is BULLCRAP. The thing the doctors on FoxNews were complaining about was that while testing is now available, it takes a couple of days to GET THE RESULTS BACK. The doctors want to get the results immediately. Thats understandable but its not equivalent to being denied testing. Hopefully, the diagnostic/testing industry is working to speed up delivery of testing results.
I can’t help thinking that with the number and variety of posters here, surely, there would be some who experienced the denial. That bothers me.
But I also think it would be a good idea to take your temperature, check to see if you feel achy or headachy.
Temperature to me is the most VALID indication that something is wrong.
Yep
