Yeah, I was in college when they were saying AIDS was a heterosexual disease. Human nature being what it is I wasted a lot of time worrying about how my generation was doomed.
Blood to blood diseases are normally quite difficult to catch. Of cousre when AIDS got going the thing they feared the most was homophobia. Which is actually inborn and natural so it cannot be eradicated, although it can be covered over by conditioning.
