Coronavirus bill will include liability protection for face mask sellers

A new coronavirus bill drafted by House Democrats will include a reform expanding liability protection for companies that sell masks after Democratic leaders dropped their opposition to that provision, The Post has learned.

House Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone (D-N.J.), who was perceived as the top opponent of the reform, confirmed to The Post that Democrats finally came around to agree to add liability protection.

“The House will address N95 mask liability this week,” Pallone said, confirming a deal was reached. “Manufacturers initially requested an indefinite, blanket liability for themselves be attached to last week’s supplemental.”

Pallone added: “Since then we have been working to put together a targeted liability waiver that ensures N95 manufacturers are protected from risks associated only with the novel coronavirus. This agreement strikes the right balance and ensures that American health care workers will continue to be protected during this outbreak.”

That’s nice. What about regular face masks? Disinfecting wipes? Disinfecting sprays? Gloves?

How about life in general?

Worked over 20 years in autobody paint prep (lots of sanding) where N-95 masks were the standard PPE. People constantly missed used them. First of all when doing physical work they are like stepping into a sauna when you put the mask on, so people pull the bottom strap off and that bypasses the mask. Men have beards and that also bypasses the mask. For the mask to operate properly it must seal against your skin.

So much of our every day lives, and what we pay for, is connected to legal and financial liability.

A month or two later, but better than nothing. The next thing that bill should have, if it doesn’t already, are guaranteed purchases by the feds, for years, so that the companies don’t get screwed again when China starts flooding the market...or an import tariff. And, hopefully, they’ll also tell the labor unions where to stick it.
