The reality of the situation is that there is little to do to stop this virus. There is no treatment and there are no mitigating factors—short of a complete lockdown. And there is no way to lockdown the US the way Xi did in China.
That said, the government puts on a happy face.
I honestly think Trump is more concerned and interested with the economic impact of this. His continual talking up of the market is tedious. Most of the market is falling because of the oil hit, but he seems to think it is Virus Panic.
I hope he is working on a post virus recovery plan. Because that is the only thing that is going to save him now.

I have to respectfully disagree that nothing can be done. Singapore’s efforts to stop the virus have had fantastic success, but it was aided enormously by the 4.5 billion they immediately spent on it, and high level of surviellance their populace is willing to live with.
But things like social distancing do work to flatten the curve, delay the surge on the healthcare system, and even out rates of infection so that society doesn’t suffer nearly as much.
Trump should focus on encouraging those strategies, not telling people it’s not that big a deal, and they should keep eating out.
