Italy is very closely interlinked with China.
I never knew but the fashion industry has >10% Chinese workers most of whom went back to China for the holidays. Chinese designers show in the Italian fashion shows with several of the main fashion houses being Chinese. There is a large influx of Chinese buyers who attend the fashion shows.
The large concentration of cases in Milan & in Italy are based on direct infection from China. That infection has been ongoing since at least January. There is now a critical viral burden with community spread.
The USA was not seeded as thoroughly or over a long period. President Trump closed access which has limited the number of seed cases. It is going to get worse but with the actions that have been taken & are being taken we will not mirror China or Italy. IMHO
Good information. You are the first one who has told of the Chinese connection of the coronavirus to Italy. I wonder why the media is so short on such explanations?
Italy is more than that. Its a critical hub in Chinas short term plan as part of a longer strategic vision. In the near term it is important for Europe and Africa to become more dependent on Chinese goods. Chinas New Silk Road Economic Belt includes a land transportation route through the -stans then Iran, Turkey, and Greece, up through Eastern Europe, Ukraine, up to Moscow, over to Duisberg, then Rotterdam and down to Venice.
Venice is also the end port for the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road that bounces down through a number of ports in Africa before going back through multiple ports in Asia on its way back to China.
It also has a Science and Technology Partnership with Quindao. (Remind you of anything in the news lately?)
Read between the lines on Milans Wiki entry.
Chinas present long term vision enabled by billions in trade in the near future to a significant degree hinge on places like Venice (might want to take a look at that Ukraine situation more closely along the way).
“But we are talking about Milan.”
China isnt sending a million farmers with shovels. Milan is just up the road from Venice and thats where many of the big banks are.
