They failed to contain the virus to the lab
They failed to contain the news of it escaping the lab
They failed to contain the outbreak

The great lesson of the Coronavirus is most countries didn't take the December outbreak in China seriously enough. Taiwan, Vietnam, and Singapore took draconian steps to contain to virus, like breaking all travel with China. Western Europe, Japan, South Korea, and the United States conducted business as usual and hoped for the best. Now we're paying for it. I don't think the virus can be contained now. Cat's out of the bag.
The U.S. still allows flights to and from South Korea and Italy - which is crazy.
