Americans could do with less A/C. Offices and schools have done themselves a great deal of harm installing windows that don’t open.
For years, we haven’t turned on the heat until it’s 40 outside and haven’t turned on the a/c until about 90. Between those temps, there is usually fresh air flowing through. That may or may not help.

Same with homes, but at least they have windows. Before building our home, I had heard of people getting sick in sealed up homes, so I made a ‘few’ mistakes in its construction - and our house breathes reasonably well, even with the windows closed and AC on, here in Texas.
