Defying the advice of Santa Clara County, the San Jose Sharks hockey team played on Thursday & declined to cancel their Saturday & Sunday home games. The San Jose Earthquakes, a Major League Soccer team, also declined to cancel their Saturday home game.
The local health officials just have to get tough—they have a lot of authority and they need to use it.
Here in Seattle the Sounders played on Saturday. Attendence was down an estimated 7,000 - “only” 40,000 people showed up.
One guy said he lived in a retirement home. He was more concerned about getting it there - “And of course I have to come out and support my Sounders!!”
I’m guessing if he can afford to go to a Sounders (soccer) match he probably has enough money where he can live in a decent retirement home. You know - one that has people sign in and out, have someone monitoring, etc. That is MUCH more dangerous than a soccer game with 40,000 people. /s
