Another word for deception could be lying.

Neither gentle Jeff, nor any action he took ever struck me as of global import that required POTUS to pretend anger, following a betrayal. Sessions was never all that. He just wasn’t. Half his tenure he delegated away to Rosenstein. Poor thing looked a fool in those congressional hearings for what he didn’t know and on live TV. I felt sorry for his wife to be there. I’ll never forget it. (Imagine how sick Trump must have been.)
