Police are investigating a possible hate crime after an alarming video surfaced showing a subway rider yelling at an Asian man and spraying him with Febreze.
The incident occurred on an N train in Sunset Park, Brooklyn on Wednesday morning, according to the New York Post, and video of it was first posted to Facebook by another person on the train.
'Tell him to move,' the aggressor shouts at the Asian man. A woman off camera replies asking why the man should move.
'Because he's standing right f***ing next to me! … Tell him to move. Tell him to move,' the man shouts.

Given the fact that thousands travelled from Wusan to multiple points in the US from Dec15-Jan 23, there is little doubt that the virus is here. Yet there have been no China or Korea type outbreaks. If there were, even in the absence of diagnostic kits, one would expect that the seriously ill would go to hospitals, some would die with acute respiratory failure and physicians would note the tell tale increase in chest CT scans with “ground glass” infiltrates. Yet so far this is not happening. Why?
Could be that the majority of the American population, Caucasians and Africans are not as susceptible to this coronavirus COVID-19 as are Asians. Many Caucasians and Africans were living in Wusan at the outbreak . Yet they did not become infected , seriously ill and none were reported to die. The region in Italy where the outbreak occurred is heavily populated with Chinese immigrants and Asian workers. Iran has a large Chinese imprint in its population genome. The Silk road transversed it and it had been conquered by the Mongols’.
In NYC there is a large population of Chines. Since the virus is there why has there not been an outbreak reported? It may be that people are in fact becoming infected and ill. However the tongs and gangs have far more influence and control over the population than the civil authorities. Commerce in Chinatown depends on restaurants and tourists chopping. Business is way down. It may collapse entirely and permanently if a widespread outbreak is reported. Its not beyond the bosses to order people to remain in their homes and self quarantine if they become ill. They cannot afford more bad publicity and probably tell the people nothing can be done at hospitals and reprisals will occur if people disobey. The dead will be cremated quickly and quietly.
It’s assault. Police are investigating a possible assault. The crime is assault.
The “hate crime” moniker comes after the recognition of the crime, and adds penalties.
